Business Planning Guide — A publication of the Alexandria Small Business Development Center. This Guide explains how to finance your small business and directs you, step-by-step through the preparation of a Business Plan. A Business Plan is generally required for financing and is strongly encouraged for all businesses.
 
Alexandria Small Business Resource Guide — A publication of the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Inc. This is a great source of information about starting and running a business in the City of Alexandria. This guide includes information on licensing, taxes, employer requirements, and business resources.

You are required to register with several state and local agencies, and to help you in the process, the State Corporation Commission (SCC), the Virginia Employment Commission (VEC), and the Department of Taxation (TAX) have developed this guide.

These guides contain valuable information for specific businesses. A listing of the guides available for purchase may be viewed at www.entrepreneur.com. The Alexandria Small Business Development Center has many of these startup guides in its library. We do not lend them out, but they are available for review in our library by appointment.
